Mirz-Jiles does not offer domain registration. While we understand our customers may find it an "additional step" to register their own domain name, we highly recommend they consider doing so. Many companies will offer this service, since they make additional money for registration of the name. We could do this as well, making extra money per account, but we feel our customer's web presence is important enough to urge them to register it on their own. Below are some FAQs about this, which will help further educate you on this issue.
Why can't I register my domain name through Mirz-Jiles.net?
You will find that many webhosts offer you a package which will includes a free domain name. First of all, while it may be "free" to you, the hosting company makes a commission on the deal. Regardless, while this may seem like a good deal, it can oftentimes lead to a nightmare. When you get a free domain from a hosting company, that company becomes the registrar. A few companies will even retain ownership. If you ever leave that hosting company, you usually have to request that they "unlock" your domain so that you can go elsewhere. If they retain ownership, you may have to purchase the URL from them. In either instance, the company is losing a customer and they will not have a lot of motivation to finalize the transfer in a timely manner. This could mean that you will have to wait days or even weeks for the company to complete the transaction. We actually experienced this ourselves with other hosting companies, and it resulted not only in long stretches of downtime, but loss of website traffic. As a result, we control our own domain names, and we urge our customers to do the same.
What if I'm having real problems getting a domain name? Can't you help?
If our customers truly need this service, we will try our best to assist them in obtaining a name. However, getting a domain name is very easy these days. Where can I register a domain name?
There are many companies. Some are more expensive, some less-so. We personally use Directnic.com. They are not the cheapest, but they offer very reasonable rates--just $15/year for a dot-com. Plus they offer a great user interface and customer service.
Whoever you decide to register with, be sure to verify that you will have the ability to control your account, including updating contact information, changing nameservers, and locking/unlocking the name.
